Puerto Morelos is a small town and you won’t find many banks and money exchange, but yes, there are some Currency Exchange Stores in the very short main square. Distrust ATM Machines with unknown bank name on the street and take chances only at a big stores or establishments and make sure that the ATM Machine is owned by a Mexican Bank. Traveler’s checks are the great way to carry money to Mexico, however, they are not accepted in all the Money Exchange Tenders and not accepted by some of the banks.  Cash US is accepted almost everywhere. Just keep in mind to have small bills or change will be given in pesos at a very low rate of exchange. US Coins are not accepted anywhere.
